Historical Center of Prague, Czech Republic, the old city of Caceres in Spain, Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, the Seine in Paris or the archaeological site of Pompeii … are nearly 18 sites classified by UNESCO as one can virtually visit very soon, thanks to Google Street View.
An agreement between giants
18 sites of outstanding universal value on the 890 inscribed on World Heritage List of UNESCO will therefore now be accessible through a partnership signed between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and Google Street View, Google Earth and Maps. Virtual tours are available on Google UNESCO
Every angle
By its functions zoom, rotate 360 ? and travel, Google Street View will allow to visit the unique natural and cultural sites selected. The images filmed by cameras installed on vehicles or tricycles (in places difficult of access) will then be mounted on the background images by satellite. It is work that takes place over several months.
At the heart of the monument
Generally, invaded by tourists, many remarkable places only partly reveal their charms. With Google Street View, these monuments can be visited virtually very privileged. For Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova: “This partnership with Google allows … to raise awareness and encourage participation in the preservation of these treasures.”
Other sites more difficult to access (in South Africa, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the Netherlands) should soon be photographed at the request of UNESCO.
