KillDisk is not simply a tool to format it will write 0 everywhere on a partition or an entire hard drive (you choose). After its passage, it is virtually impossible to recover data. KillDisk can be used after a big virut type of infection that can return after a normal format (with the Windows CD for example).
KillDisk to burn on a CD
* Download KillDisk on a PC.
* Unzip (extract) the file boot-cd-iso.zip, you will find a file named BOOT-ISO DSK.iso. You can use Nero, CDBurnerXP, etc.. to burn as an ISO. You can also use IsoBurner.exe found in the archive boot-cd-iso.zip.
* Once burned, it is ready to use.
Configure the BIOS to boot from the CD
It must now configure the BIOS to start (boot) on the CD KillDisk.
* When starting the PC, press the Delete key or F2 (depending PCs) to access the BIOS.
* Go to the Startup tab (Boot).
* Select Boot Device Priority and confirm with Enter. Put the CD / DVD first.
* Confirm the change with F10 and then OK to restart.
* Put the CD in the drive.
Using the software Kill Disk
- The PC will boot from the CD and the screen will appear:
- Choose Active @ KillDisk (FREE) and press Enter:
- A message warns you that the free version allows for only one password, confirm with Enter:
- Select the partition or hard disk format (for my part, I will format VBOXHARDDISK (80h)) and press F10:
Allow method ”One Pass Zeros” and press F10:? - Type ERASE-ALL-DATA (Q for the type A and to = -) and press Enter. The formatting is done (the duration depends on the size of hard drive, the power of the PC, etc. It may take several hours):
When formatting is complete, a report will appear:
- Press Esc twice, and a message asks if you want to leave KillDisk, press Enter:
You can remove the CD KillDisk and put the CD on your operating system (Windows, Linux, etc.). And then restart your PC to install.
