Facebook, a source of jealousy for couples

The social network Facebook, which claims 250 million users worldwide, can be dangerous for the stability of couples, according to a study conducted by the University of Guelph (Canada), and published by the Cyber psychology & Behavior journal in its latest issue. The famous international community could be the source of suspicion and conflict for couples who are enrolled.

For this study, university researchers have analyzed the behavior of 308 students aged 17 to 24 years, including 231 girls and 77 boys, all listed on Facebook. At the time of the study, half the participants (50.5%) had a serious relationship, one third was single, and 8.3% had a liaison with a (e) or more partners.

According to the results of the study, the time to scrutinize the activities of a spouse increases on Facebook jealousy and suspicion. The slightest sign of infidelity (tagged photos, ex-girlfriend added to his list of contacts, disclosure of personal information, etc.), even if unfounded, may indeed lead to an escalation of jealousy and deteriorate the relationship of the couple.

This Canadian study has also revealed that participants who spent more time than the participants to Facebook to monitor their partner had a feeling of jealousy are stronger than men.
