Android: already 20,000 applications for the “Google Phones”

‘Android Market platform download application for smartphones running the Google operating system Android, reached the milestone of 20,000 applications, according to statistics provided by the site AndroLib.com. The number of applications available for Android mobile has almost doubled in recent months, but Google is still far from the 100,000 “apps” available on the App Store from Apple.

According AndroLib.com, not less than 2160 new applications for Android was released last September, almost 2,500 in October, and no less than in November 3325. The first half of December, just over 2,000 applications have already appeared on the Android Market.

These figures are related to the influx of new devices running Android. Apart from Nokia and Apple, most major players in mobile telephony have recently released their Google Phone: HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Dell, Motorola, etc.. The catalog should be enriched in early 2010 with new versions of Android, which incorporate a particular application of free navigation and advanced.

But for now, the big winner on this lucrative market (gains applications sold are shared between the developer and manufacturer) is Apple and its iPhone. The U.S. firm has more than 100,000 applications in its App Store, a large number of video games and practical applications (transport, travel, weather, etc..).
